No. We only store Shard C, which is mathematically useless on its own. Shamir's Secret Sharing requires 2-of-3 shards to reconstruct the seed phrase. Even if our entire database was leaked, attackers would get nothing actionable. This is information-theoretic security — it can't be brute-forced.

You can recover it. Combine Shard A + Shard B to reconstruct your original seed phrase instantly. You're your own backup — no need to panic, no third party required. This is one of the key advantages of the 2-of-3 system.

You still have access. With Shard A + Shard B, you can always recover your seed — Shard C isn't needed. Plus, Shardium is open source. You can self-host the entire system on your own infrastructure. Your crypto is never locked to our platform.

We send you a check-in email every 30 days. Click the link to reset the timer. If you don't respond for 90 days, Shard C is automatically emailed to your designated beneficiary. They combine it with Shard B (the printed PDF you gave them) to recover the seed phrase.

No. Your beneficiary only has Shard B, which is useless alone. They need Shard C, which is only released after 90 days of your inactivity. As long as you keep clicking the heartbeat link, they can't access anything.

Shardium is a technical tool, not legal advice. It gives your beneficiary access to your seed phrase, but doesn't replace a proper will or estate plan. We recommend consulting with an estate attorney to ensure your crypto inheritance is legally documented.

You're paying for managed infrastructure: reliable hosting, automatic heartbeat emails, encrypted storage, and uptime guarantees. Self-hosting is free forever, but you'd need to manage servers, databases, email sending, and cron jobs yourself. The paid plan is for people who want it to "just work."

⚠️ Security Warning: If you simply stop using Shardium without proper migration, Shard C remains in our database tied to your current seed phrase.

This means if our systems are ever compromised in the future, attackers would have 1/3 of your secret configuration. While one shard alone is mathematically useless, we recommend the safe migration path:

1. Create a new wallet with a fresh seed phrase
2. Transfer all assets to the new wallet
3. Set up Shardium (or another solution) for the new seed
4. Only then deactivate your old vault

This way, even if old Shard C data is ever exposed, it's worthless because that wallet is empty. Your security is our priority — we'd rather you migrate safely than leave with risk.
